Melbourne Wedding – Sophie & Conaill

Sophie & Conaill had me at hello on the day of our styled outdoor (pre-wedding) photoshoot, as they loaded up a gorgeous acoustic guitar next to a deep red vintage couch in the white van rental we had for the day. Their shared passion for music was evident throughout that amazing day and highlighted the powerful bond their creative souls share.

Creativity was one of the main themes on their wedding day as well.

We took the traditional wedding style and asked ourselves how we could add us or our relationship into it.

The stunning design they crafted for their wedding invitation, which blew everyone away, was just the beginning.

Thoughtful gifts and some tears of joy were exchanged with the family and bridal party during the preparations in the morning.

A couple of surprise gifts were in store as well. The first one was from Sophie to Conaill and it came in the form of Conor McGregor’s Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey. This is not the easiest item to grab hold of in Australia at the moment, but Sophie didn’t let that shop her from preparing the perfect surprise. The bottles were a very popular posing (and drinking) item with some of the groomsmen, who along with Conaill, are big Conor McGregor fans.

The page boys were ready to take their important responsibility seriously. One point of discussion we had as they were getting ready was around the term “page boy”. I don’t think they were sold on the title as it didn’t clearly reflect the level of care required for the safe delivery of the precious rings. One of them said he prefers the term “ring lord”. I was not gonna argue with the ring lord so we ran with that title for the rest of the day.

Perfectly warm and sunny spring day in the heart of Melbourne. The Town Hall red carpet led the guests up to the matching red chairs on the Portico Balcony.

The guests warmly welcomed the groomsmen followed by Conaill and his mother as they walked down the aisle. Then the ring lords melted everyone into smiles, ooooh’s and ahhhhh’s. They accomplished their mission and delivered the rings safely as promised.

Sophie absolutely stunned everyone with her beauty, grace and elegance. There were not many dry eyes left in the crowd after witnessing the emotional culmination she shared with Conaill as she walked down the aisle.

The ceremony was a perfect mix of sweet and hilarious, beautifully reflecting their personalities.

Continuing with the city theme, we meandered the Melbourne alleyways for some photos after the ceremony. From Hosier Lane to Degraves Street with a short cheeky tram ride in between. Heads were turning and double takes galore for these two legends.

White Lane was styled to perfection. Rows of vibrant greens sprinkled with red and white roses laid across all the long tables, glowing in the warm candle light. Pink ambient lights set the mood for the evening.

As the guests arrived and the bridal party was about to make an entrance, the second surprise gift was about to be revealed. This one was from Conaill to Sophie and it opened up with a bang.

La Rumba band had everyone on their feet (from toddlers to grandparents) from the first note. It was impossible to sit still to their enchanting gypsy flamenco tunes. Sophie was definitely surprised.

They grooved straight into their first dance with Conaill. The entire crew couldn’t resist but join them right away as well. Looking around the room it was pretty clear everyone agreed the La Rumba music set was off the hook.

The guests looked up their names on the hilarious “Your Bum Goes Here” chart and made their way to their seats where a sweet little surprise awaited. Everyone started giggling as they looked closer at their place cards. Above their names there was a personalised (joke) greeting. Everyone had their own unique one.

My one read “Did you bring the giraffe?”. I had an instant flashback to a couple of weeks earlier when we were at the rehearsal ceremony and visited the reception venue to see how everything will be set up on the night. We were joking around with various entertainment options and I suggested they have a juggling giraffe welcome the guests as they entered the venue. Now the question was printed on my place card.

This was the level of detail Sophie and Conaill went to to make sure everyone (including the wedding team) felt welcomed and had an amazing time.

The speeches were a beautiful mix of history, gratitude, tears and laughs to go along with a good dose of embarrassing experiences revealed. A moving song performance by the gorgeous flower girl and her father ended with a roaring applause, tears and cheers.

A traditional Chinese tea ceremony took stage for exchanging respect between the newlyweds and their parents.

Once the second round of speeches concluded the d-floor was open for action. The Irish band The Bad Penguins took the stage and brought the house down with some traditional Irish tunes and some modern classics. Hugs, stomping feet, raised glasses and hands up in the air.

The celebration continued late into the night until Sophie and Conaill made their exit under the group arch of loving arms. It was an amazing celebration of love.
